Lifestyle newborn session for a 6 week old…And how old should baby be for a session?

I LOVED this newborn session with baby Romeo, Sophie and Angelo.
Romeo was 6 weeks old at the time of their session! He was super awake for nearly all of it - Not a problem! It meant we got to capture some extra connection.

If you’re wondering how old baby should be for a session… here’s how the weeks normally go:

  • 1-2 weeks old- Babies are usually very sleepy at this stage. They don't cry as much when they are changed and will be probably asleep the majority of the session. Some Mums are fine to have a session at this time and others are not…it depends on the birth experience or if she had a C-section. You could always book a session for this time and postpone if necessary. They just grow so quickly.

  • 2-4 weeks- A bit of an in-between stage. Your baby could be asleep for the whole session or wide awake. Also a time when baby acne starts for some babies. My little girl had it terrible. I’d never even heard of it until she had it.

  • 4-6 weeks- Just like little Romeo, babies this age are far more alert and awake. They make lots of eye contact and have usually developed a social smile at this point. SUCH a cute thing to capture. A great age if you want more connection in your images!

Romeo was super intrigued by my camera, which made for some brilliant images. Check them out below!
